Fire Pro Wrestling: Combination Tag  Human1989This is the first game in a long series of wrestling games with "Fire Pro" in its title. I'm generally not very fond of wrestling games and this one is no exception, although it makes many things better than other wrestling games of its time. Many different wrestlers, all with their own move repertoire are a good point. Graphics and sound are average. Most important are the controls and the fighting itself, which is a mixed-bag. It has many tactical moments but sometimes I found it difficult to make the wrestler do what I wanted him to do and found the fighting a bit jerky - which was a big minus for nearly all wrestling-games in the 8-bit/16-bit era.***Possibly the best wrestling game of its time. Grapple, make your opponent bleed, perform a tope to the outside of the ring, or lock on a submission. Fire Pro Wrestling really captures the feel of a wrestling match. The 16(!) characters in the game are thinly-veiled copies of real-life wrestlers that have appeared in New Japan and All Japan Pro-Wrestling such as Antonio Inoki, Jumbo Tsuruta, Mil Mascaras, and the Road Warriors. Each character has his own set of attacks, including one specialty that will elicit loud cheers from the crowd. The timing-based grapple system is well-executed, and the gameplay just feels right. You can't go wrong with this one.

Maniac Pro-Wrestling: Ashita e no Tatakai Hudson Soft1990

[37]***A strange mix of graphic adventure and wrestling. Guide your character's training to improve his technique, then wrestle by moving your character around the ring and choosing techniques from a menu, reminiscent of the gameplay of Microleague Wrestling. The graphics aren't bad, either. However, it's very text-heavy, so it's for Japanese speakers only.
The subtitle means "Battle to Tomorrow".

Battle Royale NEC Technologies1990It's wrestling mayhem out of control! Five maniacs hit the mat in a no holds barred, free-for-all brawl with no rules, no refs, and absolutely no mercy! Team up with friends to nail opponents. Now look out! They're coming after you! Smash 'em, bash 'em, and throw 'em over the ropes! The sound's so intense you'll feel every crushing hit, every cracking bone! It's furious non-stop action for up to five players...a winner-take-all gang fight for survival! labelimagesubject

[27]***A pretty decent port of the arcade wrestling game featuring the mighty Rastan! If you're a fan of the original, you won't be disappointed.

Fire Pro Wrestling 2nd Bout  Human19912nd Bout is the follow-up to the first game, Combination Tag. Two new play modes have been added: Excite Series (a single exhibition match) and a 16-character tournament mode. New wrestlers have also been added, including The Great Muta, Jushin Lyger, Masakatsu Funaki, and Big Van Vader, to name a few. The sound effects have improved as well. Unfortunately, the graphics are only marginally better.

Monster Pro Wrestling  ASK (Lenar)1991This weird game plays something like Micro League Wrestling, only with strange, genetically-engineered creatures, as the name suggests. Pick a signature attack, then try to stop the counter at a higher number than your opponent to pull it off. The cinematics are pretty amusing at times.

Fire ProWrestling 3: Legend Bout  Human1992The fourth official Fire ProWrestling game, featuring a slew of new characters based on wrestlers like Hiroshi Hase, Toshiaki Kawada, Nobuhiko Takada, and The Dynamite Kid, along with a majority of the favorites from the previous games. Players can compete in singles fights, tag team bouts, and even handicap matches! Legend Bout also introduces an edit mode where players can create up to four of their own wrestlers, a feature that was practically unheard of in a wrestling game. This is another worthy installment in the FiPro series!
